Katherine Sawyer

Owner Katherine Sawyer works with hair the way fashion designers work with textiles. With her many years of varied experience, she knows intuitively where to cut, what colors to apply, and how to create the most flattering look for any face shape and hair texture. At an early age Katherine's interest in the visual arts and portraiture led her to explore hair design as an outlet for her creativity. At 16 she attended cosmetology school and began her career assisting some of the best stylists and colorists in the Bay Area. Katherine went on to study at Jean Louis Deforge Academie in Paris and the Toni & Guy Hair Academy in London. In 1992, Katherine opened her own salon, dava dava, on Union St in San Francisco. The salon enjoyed 15 successful years, during which she developed a loyal clientele that still see her today. Katherine has styled hair for runway, television and video, and performed at hair shows, as well as having done bridal hair and makeup for many years. Katherine is a certified Master Colorist with Framesi and has traveled to Italy and Spain for Framesi events and classes. Most recently she attended an intensive color coaching class for Kemon and has added NaYo, ammonia and PPD-free color, as well as Davines PPD-free color to her repertoire. At this time Katherine is not accepting new clients but highly endorses her team members, most of whom she has trained and mentored.



Amanda Bettati

Amanda comes to us with over 20 years experience as an esthetician. Her lovely demeanor coupled with her technical knowledge will instantly put you at ease. Having first received a cosmetology lisence, Amanda went on to graduate from the Dermal Institure in LA to pursue her love of skincare. She regularly attends spa conventions and seminars to hone her craft and continually stays abreast of all the newest developments in the industry. Amanda incorporates her wonderful massage techniques into every facial so you never have to choose between the two. Having been to many Arcona seminars she swears by the Arcona line and uses their protocol for all of her treatments. Working in Hawaii for some time, Amanda helped open numorous spas on the islands. Recently Amanda has been studying the buccal technique with trainer Holly Pope who is an expert in the facial massage methode taught in Paris. Le buccal gives a facelift effect using oral manipulations inside the mouth, increasing blood circulation to the skin and relaxing the facial muscles.

Alesha Giles

Originally from Washington, Alesha came to the Bay Area to follow her dreams of becoming a great hairdresser. She wanted to work at a fashion forward salon that valued education, so she walked right into FUTURE after graduating cosmetology school and found her forever home! After assisting and learning from owner Katherine, as well as going to lots of advanced education, Alesha is quickly building a devoted following. Her balayage and foil techniques are gaining her many fans of her beautiful color work. She is also now certified to do the new Same Day 'Keratin Personalized Blow Out', an aloe based smoothing system that uses a blend of botanicals, amino acids and keratin to create varying degrees of straightening. Alesha loves learning and staying informed about new techniques and industry developments and will soon be going to an advanced immersion cutand color course from Toni & Guy. She also sees herself doing more bridal work in the future and enjoys doing special event styling. Katie Tiedeken

Katie recently moved back to the Bay Area from Long Beach where she is still the owner of her own successful salon. Making Oakland her permanent home she travels down south every few weeks to see her loyal clients and manage her team. After receiving her cosmetology license in 2008, Katie trained one on one with Aveda coloring and cutting educators for 14 months giving her a strong foundation and lots of hands on experience. In 2011 Katie was introduced to the Pravana color line, immediately falling in love with the way the line made the hair feel and its strong ethics in healthy and eco conscious formulas. Taking her career to the next level, she then became a certified master colorist through Pravana. Katie has taken many advanced classes and has received several awards for her hard work, which include: Keratin Complex Smoothing Therapy, Breast Cancer Cut-a-Thon, and Women’s Long Hair Design. She listens to her clients and understands what they want, always giving feedback and suggestions for up to date color and cuts and fun new styles. Katie believes the right products are key to maintaining your look at home, always making sure you understand what you’re putting on your hair and why. In her free time, which is very limited these days, Katie enjoys many creative outlets which include photography, painting and cooking and also loves skiing and going hiking with her husband and dogs. Megan Solberg

Working as a freelance stylist for print and television commercials for over 7 years, Megan transitioned easily into hair artistry. Her styling work made her realize she was inspired by the hair industry which lead her to enroll and graduate from Cinta Aveda Institute in San Francisco. There she found her new passion for hair color, color placement and fun textured cuts. Megan always stays up to date and continually takes advanced classes where she can hone new skills to try on her clients. She has attended advanced balayage, creative color placement, and advanced cutting classes alongside the team and excels at balayage hair painting techniques. Her passions include enhancing natural texture and color while adding unique style to a client’s image. Megan will be attending an immersion course at the Toni and Guy academy on cut and color techniques at the end of June. Her lovely, relaxed personality is a pleasure to be around and the time passes quickly in her chair as she magically transforms you. Lia Viglienzoni

Lia Viglienzoni has always had a passion for, and self-fullfillment from, performing skincare services. Before coming aboard at FUTURE she was co-owner of Fig & Clover Salon in Oakland for two years. Lia decided she wanted to place her focus on her clients and her craft and became a team member of our spa department. Lia has come to love the Arcona line that is used exclusively for treatments at FUTURE and has advanced training to utilize the Arcona protocol in her practice. In 2008 Lia received her Esthetician license from San Francisco School of Esthetics and Cosmetology and has had extensive training at several spas and waxing studios and is now considered a waxing expert. Along with the Arcona line Lia has also had advanced training with Image Skincare. Lia is available Tues 2-7, Weds 3-9, Thurs 10-7, Fri 4:30-7 and Sundays 10-6. Online Booking with Lia.



Rosa Jerez

Rosa began working at FUTURE immediately after graduating from San Francisco's Cinta Aveda Institute and quickly became a key member of the team. After earning her BA in English at Oberlin College she decided to follow her artistic inclinations to a career in hair. As seeing a client leave happy is her greatest delight, you can imagine her excitement in garnering more and more adorable fans upon whom to work her magic. Her full schedule and five star yelp reviews speak for themselves! A Balayage expert, Rosa revels in creative color placement and is a master at dry cutting for varied textures. She is an advanced Framesi colorist as well as being proficient in both Davines color and ammonia and PPD-free NaYo color lines. Rosa is certified in keratin and amino acid smoothing treatments and has taken several advanced cutting courses, including an intensive cutting program by former artistic director of Vidal Sassoon London, Sally Rogerson. Look for Rosa's talent for styling on the web series SanFranLand, created by Pixar director Ryan Lynch.



Casey Montalbano

Casey came to FUTURE after a year of apprenticing with master stylist Bette Roman in San Francisco. Her early training includes attending the Vidal Sassoon academy and taking weekly classes both in salon and at outside industry events. Her talent and adept cutting skills gave her the opportunity to begin working with clients after only a short time at FUTURE; within a year Casey quickly went from New Talent to Stylist status! Recently Casey has been honing her balayage and ombré skills and is always pursuing advanced education, regularly attending training seminars with top industry educators. A longtime visual artist; Casey uses her creativity to construct the perfect look for every individual. She loves to make her clients feel amazing and carefully considers a person's unique features, hair type and personality when designing for them. Her passion for the styles of the early 19th century make it her favorite era to look to for inspiration, which she then interprets into her styling work. Amina Strohl

Amina, who has been a stylist for over ten years, is a Davines trained color specialist and product expert who has educated salons about their line of haircare. She has also taught classes for Wella as well as cosmetology students at Marinello schools. She adeptly uses clipper, shear, and razor over comb for optimum results in texture and shape in short cuts. Amina is also a long layer expert and does amazing foil highlights and bayalage. She also does many types of extensions, including Hot Heads, Dream Catchers, Fusions Micro Links and Tape Tab. Besides taking care of her clients at FUTURE, Amina is currently working towards her BA in English and Journalism with an emphasis in women's studies. Amina first came to FUTURE to teach a product knowledge class for Davines and the rest is history (or herstory as the case may be). Amina is currently available Tuesdays from 9-2 and Sundays from 12-6.



Ashley Smith

After receiving her art degree, Ashley decided to pour her creative energy into her first passion and pursue a career as a hair stylist. She started her career in Chicago in 2004, spent four years in Boulder, CO, and relocated to the East Bay in 2013 with her husband and son. Ashley trained at Toni & Guy Academy in Santa Monica, completed an intensive haircutting course by former Creative Director of Vidal Sassoon, Sally Rogerson, and has taken many advanced cut and color classes at DiPietro Todd in San Francisco. She is also certified in keratin smoothing and amino acid smoothing systems. Upon having a child Ashley felt inspired to provide the most-non-toxic environment for her family and believes California is the perfect place to be. She began to incorporate natural styling products, hair color, makeup, and skincare into her work. Ashley believes in living a holistic lifestyle and brings that belief in health and wellness to all aspects of her life. The chemical free NaYo color at FUTURE, as well as the R+Co and Davines product lines, are philosophically aligned with Ashley's caring work with clients. Ashley is available Thursdays from 9-2.



Kaitrin Sears

Kaitrin Sears' style journey began during her high school years when her mother got her a subscription to Sassy magazine. She remembers the inspiration she felt thumbing through the magazine's pages and the excitement of finding her natural affinity for fashion. Never afraid to try something new, Kaitrin enjoys pushing the boundaries of what's expected and accepted. She thinks personal expression should be limitless. When designing for clients, Kaitrin takes into account the natural growth of the hair and how that individual wants to identify with their style. Kaitrin believes there is fluidity to everything in life, and movement has a hand in how she adds her own personal touch to her designs. From the moment she began cosmetology school she was creating new and unexpected styles as well as learning to master the classics. Kaitrin joined FUTURE a month after it opened its door with over 15 years of experience that she gained while working at Alexander Pope. Recently, Kaitrin has become involved with hair, makeup and wardrobe for fashion shows and photo shoots and wishes to continue to pursue this outlet for her talents. An expert colorist, Kaitrin uses INOA, ammonia free hair color, and Wella as well as PPD and ammonia free NaYo.



Kelli Eng

Oakland native Kelli Eng graduated from Alameda Beauty College in 2007 and Blush School of Makeup in 2010. Along with her busy schedule at FUTURE, Kelli also enjoys doing hair and makeup for fashion shows and editorial work and is also one of the official hairstylists for The Golden State Warriors Dance Team. Kelli styles hair for home games, promotional videos and photo shoots (including the dance team swim suit calendar) as well as doing color and extension work for the dancers as needed. With talent and knowledge across the board, Kelli is skilled in haircutting and color services for men, women and children. She has studied with industry leaders including Paul Mitchell, Vidal Sassoon and Sally Rogerson, and is also an exceptional colorist educated in the Davines line. As an extension specialist Kelli uses a tape tab extension system which is the most comfortable and natural way to enhance length and volume (before and after's can be seen on our instagram page). Devon Chaconas Fuller

Devon, who is also an Oakland native, loves the Bay Area community and is here to stay. She has been a hairdresser for over 12 years and started her education at the SF Institute/Paul Mitchell Partner School and hasn't looked back. Devon became a hair stylist because she really loves to see people happy and is also in love with the artistic aspect of doing hair. Creating masterpieces that then in turn make people feel better about themselves. She also enjoys the relationships she has formed with her clients/friends. People who have become a part of her life and the enjoyment they get when she does their hair continues to keep her fulfilled. Devon is hungry for education and has enjoyed many years of advanced classes through the salons she has worked for. She particularly enjoys the advanced education from Wella color that she uses as her color line and excels in. Hair is Devon's passion and she really can't imagine doing anything else!



Cari Geldreich

A stylist with over 20 years experience, Cari has always loved doing hair. At age 11 she started cutting her own very straight hair and soon began working on her whole family, whose hair textures varied widely. That early experience has contributed to her ability to work with all hair types, finding styles that don't fight the true nature of the hair. She believes a good haircut should continue to look great as it grows out and she makes it her goal that the client be able to manage their hair long after they leave the salon. Her rapport with her clients is easy and fun and they appreciate her wry and witty sense of humor. Cari is always in pursuit of the most healthy and natural products available and is excited to be working with NaYo Color, an amazing chemical free color line. She really enjoys working at FUTURE because she feels inspired by the creative atmosphere, being involved with photo shoots for the salon, and the team's artistic vision. Cari is now only available to her existing clientele on Sundays as she is in school studying for a degree in engineering.

Noemi Figueroa

In search of the perfect career, Noemi decided to pursue her early passion for styling hair. As a young girl she began to get creative with her own hair, playing with hot tools, bobby pins, hair products and braiding. Noticing her creative styles, friends began asking her for suggestions and she realized how much she enjoyed working with hair. Now she particularly loves to do event styling and being a part of someone's special day. Noemi started her training at an Aveda concepts salon and continues to pursue advanced education in coloring and cutting and loves working with FUTURE's eco friendly color lines. Noemi is particuary good at long hair and ombre techniques and loves doing fun bright colors. Her credits include hair and makeup for the book "Fashioning Women" by Kate Mitchell and three Scary Cow short films -"Stalled", "Eyeball" and "Dancing with Nureyev", the latter being produced by Abraham Heisler, who won the people's choice award from Explore Hatch online film festival. Noemi is receiving her psychology degree from UC Davis and is only available on Saturdays and Sundays.
